Prevention of Mother to child HIV Transmission
In partnership with Irish Aid, the Rose project is funding a three-year programme which aims to triple the number of pregnant women accessing HIV counselling and testing in the rural health centres surrounding Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi.
To date 26,007 women have been tested and 11,000 have been placed on treatment.
Where a woman tests HIV positive, all family members are followed up. Part of this programme focuses on ensuring that all women who test negative have the knowledge and support to remain negative.
The Rose Project supports people affected by HIV or AIDS in Eastern & Southern Africa. It provides medical, nursing and pyscho-social care. It is named after Rose Atieno, a young Kenyan woman who was estimated to have been the 16 millionth person to die of AIDS.
